Microsoft have released its new pricing for Microsoft Office, and I’m curious which would you rather… Pay once? or Pay an annual subscription fee?
Microsoft’s new pricing structure as advertised is encouraging users to take up its Office 365 service. Microsoft Office 365 Home Premium allowing you to run Office Home Premium 2013 on up to 5 devices (either Windows or Mac) for the annual fee of $99 (US/$119 Australian). Alternatively you can buy a single license of Microsoft Office 2013 Home & Student to run on your Windows computer for $139 (US/$169 Australian)
Both Office editions include Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, OneNote 2013. While the Office 365 version adds Outlook 2013, Publisher 2013, Access 2013 (putting it more on par with Microsoft Office Professional 2013 at $399USD for a single computer), 2oGb of Cloud Storage on Microsoft SkyDrive and 60 Minutes of Skype Call Time. Office 365 also gets upgraded with each new version of Office (which tradition dictates is about every 3 years).
Based on all this, financially it makes a lot of sense to move to Microsoft’s Office 365 platform, but how do you feel about paying an annual subscription fee and being pushed into the cloud? I’d really like to know your thought’s on this move by Microsoft. Let me know with a comment below.
