A couple of weeks ago I did a review of the GoPro Hero 3 Black edition, so to share the love now I’m having a look at one of Contour’s action cameras, the Roam 2. Contour doesn’t quiet have the same fame as GoPro but have been making action camera’s just as long with their own spin on in action camera market. The Contour Roam 2 is the cheaper of the 2 Contour camera’s available at the moment and is available in 4 colour options (Black, Blue, Red and Green).
I’ve been using the Contour Roam 2 for a couple of months now and here is my review of the camera. The Contour Roam 2 is the cheaper of the 2 Contour camera’s available at the moment and is available in 4 colour options (Black, Blue, Red and Green). It features a mount anywhere design with a 270 degree rotating lens with a laser horizon, this allows you to use either the variety of side slide mount options that Contour provide or the tripod screw mount on the device. It also features a waterproof design, with an instant on record button and uses a MicroSD cards for easily expandable storage. The mounting options on the Contour Roam 2 are the same as previous Contour cameras allowing you to use old mounts on this one as well.
What I Like
What I really like about the Contour Roam 2 is that is extremely easy to use, yes you need to use a computer initially to get it configured but after that it is really easy to use on the go. Great for action sports where you may have the Contour Roam 2 mounted on a helmet or goggles and want to turn it on without removing them. Better yet the buttons have been designed so use them if you’re wearing gloves. The mounting system is good, you can mount it flush with any flat surface and then rotate the lens to level great for Full HD point of view videos.
I also really like the design, the fact that it’s water proof without a special housing makes for good clear videos with great audio quality, this is something that other action camera struggle with. If you really want to go under water with it though you will have to buy the addition dive/underwater housing.
What I Didn’t Like
I can’t really fault the Contour Roam 2, its video quality doesn’t offer the same wow factor that the GoPro Hero 3 offers and in low light it does suffer which is probably it’s only short coming. If I was going to get really picky the fact that you need to use the computer to configure the camera initially, it makes the camera really use out in the field but means you can’t make a change between video and photo modes while your out and about.
Check out these samples recorded on the Contour Roam 2, make sure you run them in HD.
Contour Roam 2 – Promotional Video
I really like the features in of the Contour Roam 2 and it’s simplicity to use. Contour has really thought about making it simple and really easy to use, so you can capture really good point of view video anywhere in all conditions.
