Samsung launched the new Galaxy S4 earlier today (check out our coverage here) and the similarities with its predecessor are apparent. But is it a bad thing that so many people drawing direct similarities between the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4? Not at all. If you’re the market leader like Samsung is, then you need to stick with what works and what people are comfortable with.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it… I know a lot of people in the tech community would have been hoping for a revolutionary new design, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 design worked really well and consumers have been switching over to it in droves, so the evolution of that design into the Galaxy S4 is a good thing. We saw something similar from Samsung with the original Samsung Galaxy S and SII.
Really consumers generally don’t like change so while the updates with the Samsung Galaxy S4 are modest from a techie persons point of view, from a regular consumer view (which lets face it there are more of than pure tech enthusiasts), these updates are enough to keep Samsung on top of the sales sheets for the foreseeable future. This is the method exactly the same as what Apple have been doing for several years. What I would like to see is HTC, Nokia and Apple to bring out new features with “wow” factor that will force Samsung to bring out something revolutionary with the Samsung Galaxy S5 next year.
